Learning The “Secrets” of Mops

Guide to Steam Mopping

Keeping homes clean is a task that many people take very seriously. This is why they employ various means to achieve this. The most common way of maintaining cleanliness is by sweeping the floor and wiping surfaces regularly. This however serves to clean off some forms of dirt but not others. Solid waste that does not stick on floor like papers can be removed from the floor by broom sweeping. However dust, oil and other sticky hard materials cannot be cleaned off the floor by using the normal broom. It is therefore wise to use methods that can remove such dirt while leaving the floor intact.

Steam mops and vacuum cleaners are arguably the best cleaners for sticky materials on the floor. A steam mop is a form of vacuum cleaner that produces steam that is the agent of cleaning sticky matter from floors. A vacuum cleaner on the other hand just uses suction to remove dirt that is loosely attached to the floor. The point of separation between a vacuum cleaner and a steam mop is therefore in the fact that the steam cleaner uses steam. It is good to note that steam mops do also have suction power that acts after the steam has dissolved the sticky matter.

A reservoir in which water is put is a key component of a steam mop. After being heated to very high temperatures, this water forms steam. This steam is the ejected through jets to the floor that is being cleaned. When the steam hits the floor, it dissolved hard sticky solid matter in readiness for removal. A steam mop could have one or more jets for releasing the vapor, depending on the extent of cleaning to be done. Since the steam mop has suction power of its own, it does not leave residue on the floor after cleaning.

You do not require to have cleaning detergents when using a steam mop. The steam does the dissolution of the dirt hence there is no need for detergents. Disinfection is also done by the steam. Research has it that 99% of bacteria on the floor are usually killed by the steam. It also kills insects like dust mites that could be on the floor. The floor is not usually damaged during the entire cleaning procedure.

One would identify the best steam mops by how well they leave the floor after cleaning. Durability of the mops also comes in handy. Good material should be used since steam mops use electricity and water. For instance, the water reservoir in the steam mop be made of stainless steel that would not corrode over time.
